Type: Snagging in closed waters, No license in Possession

On 9/24/18, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Jan Petersen, age 61 of Thorne Bay, while he was attempting to snag salmon in the Klawock harbor in violation of 5AAC47.021(i)(1)(A). Petersen also did not have a valid sport fish license in possession. Petersen was issued a $110.00 Alaska Uniform Citation (AUC) for snagging, and a $210.00 correctable AUC for not having a license in possession.

On 9/24/18, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Charles Ross III, age 44 of Wrangell, while he was attempting to snag salmon in the Klawock harbor in violation of 5AAC47.021(i)(1)(A). Ross was issued a $110.00 Alaska Uniform Citation (AUC) for snagging in closed waters.

On September 24, 2018 at about 7:53PM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island received a report that 68 year old Klawock resident Carl Benston, was overdue from a hunting trip. Family members searched the most common areas Carl hunted until about 11:00PM with no results. On the morning of September 25, 2018, troopers along with family members began a search for Carl. At about 10:15AM, Carl was located in the Lower Steelhead area by AST, and was uninjured. Carl was transported back to Klawock.

Type: Commercial fishing violations for Halibut.

On 9/27/18, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island conducted a commercial halibut offload inspection of the FV Nakwasina. The captain of the vessel was identified as William Rhodes, age 60 of Craig. During the offload, three halibut were identified that were under the required 32" length for commercial retention. Rhodes was issued a minor offense citation to appear in court for the charge of retaining undersized commercial halibut.

On 9/27/18, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Kenneth Daugherty, age 60 of Craig, while sport fishing on the Klawock River. Daugherty did not have a valid Alaska sport fish license in possession. Daugherty was issued a correctable minor offense citation for sport fishing without a license.
