June 28, 2016 ANCHORAGE – Governor Bill Walker today named Jahna Lindemuth as Alaska’s next Attorney General. Born and raised in Anchorage, Ms. Lindemuth brings extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, appeals to the Alaska Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and administrative management to her new role at Department of Law. She is currently a partner at Dorsey & Whitney, LLP, and serves as head of the firm’s Anchorage office.
Ms. Lindemuth will be the second woman ever to serve as Alaska’s Attorney General. Grace Schaible was the first woman to serve as Alaska’s Attorney General from 1987 to 1989 under the Cowper Administration.
“I am pleased to welcome Jahna Lindemuth as a member of my cabinet and the new leader of the Alaska Department of Law. Jahna was one of four finalists I recently interviewed for a vacancy on the Supreme Court, and I was struck by her outstanding resume and legal experience,” said Governor Bill Walker. “Jahna is well respected in Alaska’s legal community for her strong work ethic, professional demeanor, and compassion for Alaskans. Last year alone, she dedicated over 950 hours of pro bono work to represent a victim of domestic violence and one of the Fairbanks Four. This commitment to serve and seek justice for those in need is admirable, and will make Jahna a valuable addition to my administration.”
As a partner at Dorsey & Whitney, Ms. Lindemuth has represented such clients as Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC), and ConocoPhillips Alaska in both state and federal court, arbitrations, and before administrative agencies. She has worked for the firm since 1999, and was named Dorsey & Whitney Partner of the Year in 2012 for her mentorship of junior attorneys and others.
Ms. Lindemuth has also been recognized throughout the legal community for her advocacy and leadership. She was named as a Top 10 Attorney for Alaska by Super Lawyers in 2014 and 2015, a Local Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation for 2013-2015, and one of the Top 250 Women in Litigation by Benchmark Litigation for 2012-2015.
“Jahna comes highly regarded by Alaskans representing a broad array of industries and sectors,” Governor Walker said. “This diverse support base assures me that she will represent the State of Alaska and its residents well.”
Ms. Lindemuth received her juris doctor from University of California at Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in 1997, graduating Order of the Coif, and clerked for former Alaska Supreme Court Justice Robert L. Eastaugh from 1997-1998. She serves on the Alaska Supreme Court Appellate Rules Committee, the Alaska Bar Association’s Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection Committee, and is Co-Chair of the Alaska Bar Association’s Appellate Law Section.
Ms. Lindemuth lives in Anchorage with her two sons. She will begin her new position at the Department of Law in early August.
