Three Fires in Three Places in 24hrs! Three Commercial Fishing Boats Caught Fire in Craig Harbor May 21, 2017

The three boats where tied right next to each other in the North Cove Marina in Craig and that is why the fire spread so quickly. Rumors abound at this point and no official word has been made in regards to the cause, but according to talk on Facebook, this was an accidental fire and was not arson. Please note, this is just rumors at this point! Thankfully no one was injured.

One of the boats was cut loose and towed away to give firefighters better access to fight the fires on the other two boats:

Naukati Fire:

There was a separate fire in Naukati the night before. No connections as of yet just an interesting coincidence.

Ketchikan Fire:

From the Ketchikan Fire Department:

Ketchikan Fire Department responded to Safeway late Saturday night for a verified fire located on the commercial cook stove in the deli. Initial reports indicated that two fire extinguishers had been used by the occupants but the fire was still burning. Officers from the City of Ketchikan Police Department arrived on scene first and also attempted to use a fire extinguisher. They then assisted in the evacuation of the store. During the evacuation the stove suppression system and the building sprinkler system activated.

Fire crews arrived on scene and used the combination of fire extinguisher and a hose line to extinguish the fire. A substantial amount of smoke was ventilated from the store and water from the sprinkler and hand lines was squeegeed out. Fire crews were assisted by South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department and North Tongass Vol. Fire Dept.
