On 1-27-19 at approximately 1815 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a vehicle in the ditch near mile 12.5 mile N. Tongass Hwy. Investigation showed Douglas Nausid, age 62 of Ketchikan was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. Nausid had a BrAc of .129%. Nausid was arrested and remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center on the charge of Driving Under the Influence.

On 1-27-19 at approximately 0900 hours, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a theft. Investigation revealed that between Jan 24-27, 2019, unknown person(s) removed a Bushmaster rifle from an unsecured vehicle in Klawock. On 01/27/2019 at 1620 hours, AST received a report that Chris Cahoon, 28 of Washington overdue. Cahoon reportedly left a residence on a 4-wheeler from the Goose Creek Subdivision in Thorne Bay. His direction of travel and planned destination were unknown. A search of the road system was done by the local VPSO until dark but Cahoon was unable to be located. On 01/28/2019 at approximately 0810 hours, AST was notified that Cahoon had been located deceased. It appears that Cahoon was traveling at a high rate of speed when he left the roadway and crashed into a tree. The ATV caught fire. Next of kin has been notified.

On 01/30/2019 at about 1543 hours. the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a theft which occurred at a shop in the area of Old Homestead off the South Tongass Highway. The stolen property was reported to be tools and gasoline drums. The theft was reported to have occurred approximately 6 months ago. The estimated loss of stolen property is $745.00.
