Trooper Report Week of April 1, 2019

Location: Prince of Wales

Type: Driving CMV with Canceled CDL

On April 2, 2019 at about 11:50 AM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island conducted a traffic stop on a logging truck for speeding. The driver was identified as 70 year old Oregon resident Michael Andrus. Investigation revealed Andrus was driving a commercial motor vehicle and his commercial driver's license was canceled. Andrus was issued a misdemeanor citation for Driving a Commercial Vehicle with a Canceled Commercial Driver's License. Andrus was issued a speeding citation as well.

Type: Over limit non-pelagic rockfish

On 3/30/2019, AWT issued citations to Agapito Bello, 65 of Ketchikan, Arthur Felarca, 60 of Ketchikan, and Roberto Lucar, 74 of Ketchikan, for taking an over limit of nonpelagic rockfish. The individuals were contacted by AWT while they fished the marine waters south of Ketchikan. Each citation has a set $140.00 bail.

Type: No biodegradable escape mechanism

On 3/30/2019, AWT issued a citation to Andrew Cowan, 40 of Ketchikan, for failing to have the required biodegradable escape mechanism on his Dungeness crab pot. The violations has a set $120.00 fine.


Location: Prince of Wales Island

Type: Buoy Marking Violation
Dispatch Text:

While patrolling the marine waters outside of Craig, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers located an unmarked buoy attached to a stainless steel personal use dungy pot. Investigation revealed that the gear was being fished by Seth Winrod. Winrod was issued an AUC for failing to mark his buoy per 5AAC77.010d.
