Trooper Report Week of Oct. 6th and GTA

Location: Ketchikan

Type: Assault IV- DV, Criminal Mischief III, and Attempt Vehicle Theft I

On 10-7-19 at approximately 1955 hours, The Alaska State Troopers received a report of an assault at a residence on Higgins Spur. Investigation showed Derek Kollman, age 28 of Ketchikan Assaulted loved one. Then attempted to take their vehicle while doing so caused approximately $1000 dollars in damage to the vehicle. Kollman was not located on 10-7-19 but was located on 10-8-19 at his residence. Kollman was arrested and remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center.

Type: Explosive Detonation, Road Closure

On 10/08/2019, at approximately 1723 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received reports of an explosive blast at Mile 13 of the North Tongass Highway. AST responded to the location and found a rockslide completely blocking both lanes of travel at Mile 13. The blast was determined to have occurred when Michael Williams, age 67 of Edna Bay and owner of Williams Drilling and Blasting, was blasting rock to clear property for a residential project. The blast inadvertently caused the rockslide which covered the North Tongass Highway. DOT and North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department (NTVFD) were contacted and responded to the scene. NTVFD assisted with traffic control and DOT and good Samaritans from Ketchikan with heavy machinery assisted with clearing the large rocks and boulders from the roadway. The North Tongass Highway was shut down to one lane of travel during the clean-up. After approximately 7 hours of work, the roadway was cleared and both lanes of travel were again operational. No injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified of this incident.

Type: Take Deer Closed Season

On 10/9/19, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Prince of Wales contacted Jacob Powell, 34 of Arkansas after an investigation revealed he had harvested a female deer in GMU 2 which has no open season for the taking of female deer. He was issued a summons to appear in the Prince of Wales District Court for taking a deer closed season.

Type: Commercial fish without a crewmember’s license in possession

On 10/07/2019, Jacob R Buehrig ,29 of Florida, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post for commercial fishing without a 2019 crewmembers license in possession. Buehrig was cited after he was contacted while operating the commercial Tender F/V Savage during commercial dive openings for sea cucumbers and Geoducks near Duke Island. Bail is set at $270 in the Ketchikan Court.

Type: Warrant Arrest/False Info/DWLR

On October 11, 2019, at about 7:38PM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in regards to an ongoing investigation. Darren Edenshaw was arrested on his outstanding warrants and a new charge of False Information. Daniel Frank was arrested for Driving While License Revoked. Both were transported to the Craig Jail. Daniel was later relased and Darren was remanded on his warrants with $50,000.00 bail. Craig and Klawock Police Departments both assisted with this incident.

On 10-11-2019 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Matthew Allen, 42 of Ketchikan, for failing to leave the evidence of sex attached to a Sitka Blacktail deer while transporting from the field. This is offense has a set fine of $170 and does not require an appearance in the First Judicial Court in Ketchikan.

On 10-4-2019 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Kale Pastel, 36 of Sitka, for failing to have his 2019 commercial crewmembers license in his possession while participating in the commercial shrimp fishery. This is offense has a set fine of $270 and does not require an appearance in the First Judicial Court in Wrangell.
