Trooper Report Week of September 30th


Location: Saxman

Type: Assault in the 4th degree X 2 (Non-DV), Criminal Mischief in the 5th degree

On 09/29/2019, at approximately 0501 hours, the Saxman VPSO, responded to the 2300 block of Killer Whale Avenue in Saxman for a report of a fight and damage to the residence. Investigation revealed that Tyler Cavanaugh, age 21 of Ketchikan, committed the crime of Assault in the 4th degree X 2, and Criminal Mischief in the 5th degree when he struck two people, causing pain and injury, and intentionally broke out a living room window at the home. Cavanaugh was arrested on the charges and remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center.

On September 23, 2019, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island received a report of a possible burglary in Hydaburg. The investigation revealed multiple items were stolen from the residence. A large majority of the stolen items were recovered. There is one chainsaw that is still missing, which is a Stihl 66 with a 36 inch bar. On September 30, 2019, arrest warrants were issued for 43 year old Paul Washington Jr of Hydaburg. The arrest warrants are for Burglary I, three counts of Theft II and one count of Criminal Mischief V.

On 09/29/2019 at about 2159 hours, the Alaska State Trooper assisted USFS LEO with a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet Camaro at mile 1 Revilla Road. The vehicle was stopped for speeding. Investigation revealed that the driver Joseph Volpi, age 39 of Ketchikan was operating a motor vehicle with a Suspended driver's License reference a prior DUI conviction. Further investigation also revealed that Volpi was violating conditions or release set by the Ketchikan Courthouse by being with the passenger of the vehicle and not obeying State Laws. Volpi was issued a Summons for DWLS and VCOR.

On 10-01-2019, Alaska State Troopers responded to the area of 8 mile North Tongass for a reported domestic disturbance. Troopers arrested 48-year-old Robert J. Kupers after investigation revealed he had caused fear to a female at that location. Kupers was remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center without bail until seen by a judge.

On October 1, 2019, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island conducted an investigation after receiving a report of someone's tire being slashed in Hydaburg. Investigation resulted in David Natkong-Carle being arrested for Criminal Mischief IV and Criminal Trespass I. Natkong-Carle was transported to the Craig Jail where he was remanded without bail.

On 9/27/19, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Prince of Wales conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle, Galen Zink, 33 of Kasaan, did not have a valid driver’s license. He was issued a summons to appear in the Prince of Wales District Court for driving while his license was suspended and issued a minor offense traffic citation.

On 10/03/2019 at about 1621 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation in the 3000 Block of Tongass Avenue. Investigation revealed that the driver Ronald Williams, age 42 of Ketchikan was operating a motor vehicle while his drivers license was Revoked reference a prior DUI. Williams had also been previously cited and advised not to drive 5 days ago. Williams was arrested and transported to Ketchikan Correctional Center. AST would like to thank USFS LEO's for their assistance with the investigation.

On 10-03-2019, Alaska State Troopers contacted 51-year-old Kevin Dale at the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry Terminal in Ketchikan. Dale was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Ketchikan District Court for Failure to Appear for an arraignment. Dale was taken into custody without incident and remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center, bail was set at $100.00.

On October 4, 2019, at about 4:30PM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island received a REDDI report about a male passed out behind the wheel. Troopers responded and contacted 25 year old Anthony Edenshaw. Anthony was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of drugs and was transported to the Craig Jail where he was remanded and later released.
