Type: Residential Fire/Death Investigation

UPDATE: The deceased has been positively identified by SME as the homeowner, Michael Head, 69, of Craig. NOK have been notified.

On November 16, 2019, at approximately 0011 hours, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a residential fire at 2.1 mile of Port St. Nicholas Road in Craig. Troopers and members of the Craig Volunteer Fire Department responded and found the home to be fully engulfed. Once the fire was contained, human remains were located inside. The remains have been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by State Fire Marshals with the Division of Fire and Life Safety.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island were patrolling the marine waters of Thorne Bay, when they located two dungy pots that were each attached to buoys with improper markings. Investigation revealed that the pots were owned by Jason Clowar, age 45 of Thorne Bay. Clowar was issued an AUC for the buoy marking violation.

On 11/20/2019, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Ketchikan issued a citation to Trinity Jackson, 41 of Metlakatla, for unlawful commercial Dungeness crab gear in Registration Area A. Jackson was cited after AWT inspected his commercial gear and discovered multiple color configurations on his buoys. Jackson was issued a mandatory court citation to appear in the District Court in Ketchikan.

Type: No Liability Insurance

On November 22, 2019, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island conducted a traffic stop for speeding. Investigation showed the driver, 44 year old Larry Clark, did not have liability insurance as required and has been previously charged for no proof of insurance. Clark was issued a misdemeanor citation for No Liability Insurance and given a mandatory court date.

On November 22, 2019, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island began an investigation after allegations were made in regards to 20 year Jacob Cottrell of Kasaan violating his conditions of release. As a result of the investigation, Jacob was arrested on November 23, 2019 and remanded at the Craig Jail without bail for Violating Conditions of Release and Unlawful Contact I.
