Ketchikan's First Baby of the Year Born January 7th

The Caregiver:

Braven Hunter Gillen is Ketchikan’s first baby of 2020 arriving at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center on Tuesday, January 7, at 2:39 p.m. He weighed 9 pounds, 1 ounce and is 21 inches long.

Braven is the son of Micaelah Larsen and Tyver Gillen from Wrangell. The couple will travel home to Wrangell by ferry later in the week where Braven will be introduced to and greeted by their large extended families. “I’m related to half of the community and he’s related to the other half!” explained Micaelah.

As is tradition, the family received a handmade wooden cradle crafted by Ketchikan Police Sgt. Bob Cheatam filled with baby gifts donated by Ketchikan Medical Center caregivers and assembled by the nurses and other caregivers in New Beginnings Birthing Center. They also received one of the Baby Boxes that are given to all new babies that features native designs by Tsimshan artist Ken Decker at Crazy Wolf Studio.

Congratulations to Micaelah and Tyver on your handsome, amazing son!
