Type: Escape Mechanism Violation

On 3/29/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island located and seized a personal use dungy pot in the marine waters of the Klawock Inlet that did not have the required biodegradable escape mechanism. Investigation revealed that the pot was being fished by Andres Salazar, age 48 of Craig. Salazar was issued a minor offense AUC for the violation, and his pot was returned.

Type: Commercial Crab Violations

On 3-16-20, Kory Versteeg, age 36, of Petersburg appeared in the Petersburg District Court. Versteeg plead guilty to multiple commercial crab violations. In a combined plea agreement Versteeg was sentenced to $13,000 in fines with $10,000 suspended and placed on probation for one year. Versteeg forfeited all the gear seized in each case. The charges originated from the 2018 Commercial Golden King Crab Season, and the 2019 Summer Dungeness Crab season.

On April 3, 2020, at approximately 0115 hrs, 36-year-old Mathew Martinez of Ketchikan contacted the Alaska State Troopers (AST) to advise his vehicle was stuck in the snow near mile 5 of Revilla Road. Martinez advised his children and another family member were also with him. AST, AWT, and USFS law enforcement responded and located Martinez and his family.

Subsequent investigation revealed Martinez was in violation of a court ordered protective order prohibiting him from having contact with the family member inside the vehicle.

All parties were provided safe transport from the scene. Martinez was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center, where he was held without bail pending his arraignment.

On April 4, 2020, at approximately 0324 hrs, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a disturbance near the 700 block of Forest Park. AST responded and subsequent investigation revealed 31-year-old Michael Guthrie of Ketchikan, had physically assaulted another adult. Guthrie was taken into custody and transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center, where he was held without bail pending arraignment. Guthrie is charged with the misdemeanor offense of assault in the fourth degree, involving domestic violence.
