Location: Ketchikan

Type: Driving While License Revoked and Violate Conditions of Release x 2

On 5/29/2020 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers arrested Brandon Reinke (35) of Ketchikan for one count of driving while his license was revoked and two counts of violating conditions of release. Reinke was transported, booked, and released to his own recognizance at Ketchikan Correctional Center. Driving while license revoked is a class A misdemeanor offense and both charges of violating conditions of release are class B misdemeanor offenses in the First Judicial District Court in Ketchikan.

Type: Escape Mechanism Violation

On 5/21/20, AWT located and seized two shrimp pots in the marine waters near Kasaan Island that did not have the required biodegradable escape mechanism. Investigation showed that the pots were being fished by Louis L. Jones, of Kasaan. Jones was issued a citation for the escape mechanism violation, and his pots were returned.

On 5/20/20, Barry Lee McKee, age 71, of Sitka, pled guilty to one count each of Failure to File a Fish Ticket, Failure to Submit Direct Marketer Intent to Operate, and Prohibited Conduct-General as part of an agreement through the Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP). McKee was fined a total of $30,000 with $15,000 suspended, ordered to pay restitution for unpaid fisheries taxes related to unreported catch, placed on probation for one year, and prohibited from participating in commercial power troll fisheries for one year.

On 4/17/19, Barry McKee was charged with 15 counts of failing to complete commercial salmon troll fish tickets, 3 counts of failing to record partial deliveries, and failing to submit an intent to operate for commercial fisheries direct marketing, all in 2017 and 2018. The charges stem from an Alaska Wildlife Trooper investigation which showed McKee, aboard the commercial troller F/V L.K. ANN, had taken commercial salmon which were shipped out of state and sold. McKee never completed a fish ticket, reported the catch, or paid fisheries taxes on the approximately $57,000 in commercial catch. This unreported catch represents approximately 325 King Salmon, 610 Coho Salmon, and 20 Rockfish. An arraignment is set in the District Court at Sitka.

On 06/02/2020 at about 1928 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) report on a white Nissan pick-up swerving several times into the opposite lane of travel. AST located the vehicle at Mile 6 of the North Tongass Highway. Upon contact with the vehicle AST observed a female driver passed out inside the vehicle and the vehicle was still in gear. Investigation revealed that the driver Deanica Deanda, age 60 of Ketchikan was operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The driver was also found to be three times over the legal of .08. Deanda was arrested and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center. AST would like to thank the concerned citizen who called AST to report the REDDI vehicle.

Type: Fire investigation- fatal

Update: The deceased has been identified by family as Paul Enright, 90 of Ketchikan. Next of kin has been notified. Investigation is ongoing.

On June 3, 2020, at approximately 0339 hours, AST was notified of a structure fire on N. Tongass Highway. Fire officials reported finding a body inside the residence. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. A Deputy Fire Marshal from Anchorage is responding for the investigation. The remains will be transported to the SME's office in Anchorage for autopsy and positive identification.

On 06/04/2020 at about 1739 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted and arrested William Kushnick, age 43 of Ketchikan in the 4200 Block of Tongass Avenue. Kushnick had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Violating Conditions of Release stemming from the original offense of Assault in the 2nd Degree DV. Kushnick was transported and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with bail set at $5,000.

On June 6, 2020, at approximately 0851 hrs, Alaska State Troopers contacted 40-year-old Jessica Hallsworth of Ketchikan at a residence near the 700 block of Park Avenue. Hallsworth was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for her arrest for failure to complete 80 hours of community work service in lieu of 10 days jail time, for the original misdemeanor offense of assault in the fourth degree. Hallsworth was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center, where she was held to serve her jail time.

Type: DV Assault IV, Resisting Arrest

On 6/5/2020 at approximately 1841 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers - Prince of Wales Post, responded to a domestic violence assault incident in the village of Hydaburg. Investigation led to the arrest of Cherilyn Holter(54 y/o) of Hydaburg for DV Assault IV and Resisting Arrest. She was remanded to the Crail Jail awaiting a mandatory appearance in the Prince of Wales District Court.
