Location: Prince of Wales Island

Type: Escape Mechanism Violation
Dispatch Text:

On 7/19/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers located and seized a personal use dungy pot in the marine waters of 12 mile arm that did not have the required biodegradable escape mechanism. Investigation showed that the pot was being fished by David Kingsley, age 53 of Hollis. Kingsley was issued a minor offense AUC for the violation, and his gear was returned.

On 8/13/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers located and seized a sport fish dungy pot in the marine waters of the Klawock Inlet that did not have the required biodegradable escape mechanism. Investigation showed that the pot was being fished by Todd Percival, age 55 of Arkansas. Percival was issued a minor offense AUC for the violation, and his gear was returned.

On 8/13/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers located and seized a sport fish dungy pot in the marine waters of the Klawock Inlet that did not have the required escape rings. Investigation showed that the pot was being fished by Jay Simerka, age 46 of Washington State. Simerka was issued a strict liability AUC for the violation, and his gear was returned.

On 8/13/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers located and seized a personal use dungy pot in the marine waters of the Klawock Inlet that did not have the required escape rings. Investigation showed that the pot was being fished by Jeremy Leighton, age 50 of Ward Cove. Leighton was issued a minor offense AUC for the violation, and his gear was returned.

Type: No Sport Fish License In Possession

On 8/16/2020, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Ketchikan issued a citation to Gary Mertens, 48 of California, for sportfishing without a valid license in his possession. Mertens was contacted fishing the marine waters near Union Bay. The violation has a set fine of $220.00.

On 8-13-20, Matthew J. Carle Sr, age 71 of Hydaburg was cited by wildlife troopers for failing to be present and sign ADFG fish tickets during the off load of commercial salmon taken under his commercial fishing permit. Carle was given an arraignment date of August 26, 2020 in the Klawock district court.

Type: Probation Violation/Reckless Driving/DWLS/No Insurance

On 8/22/2020 at 1708 hours, AST conducted a traffic stop on a gray 1992 Chevrolet pickup near 13 mile Hydaburg Highway for a moving violation. The driver, 23-year-old Torrin Latimer was discovered to have a suspended drivers license. Further investigation revealed Latimer on supervised probation. At the conclusion of the investigation, Latimer was arrested for violating conditions of probation and remanded to the Craig Jail. Charges of Reckless Driving, DWLS, and No Insurance will be forwarded to the District Attorneys Office for review.

Type: Sport Fish Guide Fail To Complete Logbook Page

On 8/13/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Dennis Evans, age 63 of Sparks, NV, while he was acting as a sport fish guide on a chartered trip near Noyes Island. Investigation revealed Evans had failed to complete his sport fish guide saltwater logbook page as required. Evans was issued a $220.00 citation in the POW District Court for the violation.

Location: Coffman Cove

Type: Retain Undersized Dungeness Crab
Dispatch Text:

On 8/16/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Allan Cheney, age 62, of Coffman Cove while he was sport fishing near Coffman Cove. Investigation revealed Cheney was in possession of an undersize Dungeness crab. Cheney was issued a $140.00 citation in the POW District Court for the violation. The crab was returned to the water unharmed.
