Location: Ketchikan

Type: Fail to Salvage Edible Meat
Dispatch Text:

On 8/19/2020, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Ketchikan cited Brennon Fisher (22), Bryson Fisher (18), and Joseph Johnson (22), all of Montana, for failing to salvage all the edible meat from three Sitka Black Tail deer they had harvested in GMU 2. The investigation began after troopers in Ketchikan received a tip from a concerned citizen. The violations require a mandatory court appearance in the District Court on Prince of Wales Island.

Type: Nonresident Fail to Log Ling Cod

On 8/12/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Andrew Rivera, age 63, of Fremont, CA, sport fishing near the north end of Dall Island. Investigation revealed Rivera had caught and retained a Ling Cod while being a nonresident, and had failed to log the retention of the Ling Cod on his sport fish license as required. Rivera was issued a $120.00 citation in the POW District Court for the violation.

Type: Sport Fish Charter - Fail to Submit Logbook Page

On 8/8/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, issued Roberto Medina, age 33 of Craig, a $220.00 citation for failing to submit copies of his sport fish charter logbook within the required period of time. The citation was issued in the POW District Court.

Type: Sport Fish Guide - Assist Client in Violation, Fail to Complete Logbook

On 8/12/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Kyle Ryan, age 43 of Honolulu, HI, as he was returning to Klawock from a guided sport fishing trip. Investigation revealed Ryan had been acting as a sport fish guide and had allowed two clients to retain an over limit of pelagic rockfish. Further investigation revealed Ryan had fished during a portion of his trip, but failed to log himself in his logbook as required. Ryan was issued a $220.00 citation for failing to complete his logbook. Ryan was issued a strict liability citation for assisting clients in violations. Ryan has a mandatory court appearance in the Price of Wales District Court. Five Black Rockfish were seized and later donated to a charity.

Type: Assault IV, Criminal Trespass I

On 8-23-20 at approximately 1435 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a 911 call of a fight involving multiple individuals at a residence near mile 11 of the North Tongass Highway. Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, USFS Officers, Ketchikan Police Officers and the North Tongass Fire Department responded. Three individuals sustained injuries from a broken wine glass during the fight. Two females and a male were transported to the Ketchikan General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released. Charges will be forwarded to the District Attorney on the female that initiated the physical fight. Alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.

On 08/24/2020, at approximately 1828 hours, Alaska State Troopers from the Ketchikan Post responded to a residence in Ketchikan to investigate the report of domestic violence. Ava Catlett (age 26 of Ketchikan) was arrested for Assault 4 (DV) after investigation revealed she caused physical injury to a family member. Catlett was remanded at the Ketchikan Correctional Center without bail pending arraignment on 08/25/2020.

Type: Sport Fish Without License in Possession

On 8/24/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Kristopher Johnson, age 36 of California while he was sport fishing in the marine waters of Thorne Bay. Investigation revealed that Johnson was not in possession of a valid Alaska sport fish license. Johnson was issued a correctable minor offense citation for the violation.

Type: Retain undersized dungy crab

On 8/24/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Kenneth Seymore, age 71 of Thorne Bay while he was sport fishing in the marine waters of Thorne Bay. Investigation revealed that Seymore had also been setting personal use dungy pots that day, and had caught and retained two undersized dungeness crabs. Seymore was issued a minor offense citation for the violation, and the crabs were released back into the water.

On 8/20/20 at 1400 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Payton Brewer, age 18 of Thorne Bay, while he was operating his 1997 Subaru near mile six of the Kasaan Road. Brewer admitted that he was operating the vehicle with no valid operator’s license, and a check of APSIN confirmed that he is ID-only. Brewer was issued a minor offense AUC for NVOL.

Type: Over Limit Goat

On 8/25/2020, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Ketchikan cited Jerry Meacham, 56 of Florida, for harvesting an over limit of goat during a guided hunt in Game Management Unit 1A. Troopers began the investigation on 8/23/2020 after the guide service immediately reported the violation. The violation requires a mandatory appearance in the District Court of Ketchikan.

On August 27, 2020, at approximately 0430 hrs, Alaska Wildlife Troopers (AWT) responded to a reported disturbance at a residence near the 700 block of Forest Park Drive. Subsequent investigation revealed 34-year-old Heather Guthrie of Ketchikan had physically assaulted an individual whom she had been involved in a relationship with. Guthrie was taken into custody for assault in the fourth degree, involving domestic violence. She was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center, where she was held without bail pending arraignment.

On 08/28/2020 at approximately 1240 hours, the Alaska State Troopers with the assistance of USCG Ketchikan and South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department Medics responded to a residence on Pennock Island for a report of a deceased person. Investigation revealed that Beauford Chatham, age 77 of Ketchikan was found deceased inside his residence by family . The State Medical Examiner was notified of the death and released the body to the family. Next of Kin was on scene. No foul play is suspected.

On 8/26/2020, Alaska State Troopers arrested 36-year-old Michael Bernhardt of Hydaburg for assault. Investigation revealed Bernhardt, who is on supervised probation for Assault III (DV), assaulted the same family for which he was on probation for. And based on the multiple prior convictions of assault, this charge was upgraded to Assault III. Bernhardt was transported to the Craig Jail pending arraignment.

On 8/25/2020, State Troopers contacted 24-year-old Drakkar Smith of Klawock at the Klawock Cemetery. Investigation revealed Smith is on supervised probation for Criminal Mischief III. A search of his vehicle was conducted at the request of probation which resulted in the arrest of Smith for violating conditions of probation. Smith was transported to the Craig Jail pending arraignment.

Type: Warrant Arrest/VCOR

On 8/25/2020, Prince of Wales State Troopers contacted and arrested 55-year-old Michael Brewer of Craig. The contact was made after the troopers recognized Brewer, and had knowledge he was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant. It was also discovered that Brewer was violating his conditions of release by consuming alcohol. Brewer was transported to the Craig Jail pending arraignment.

Type: Drive in violation restricted license/VCOR

On 8/28/2020 at 2010 hours, Prince of Wales State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on 2000 Ford pickup in Klawock for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed the driver, 34-year-old Ketchikan resident, Bryan Thompson was operating the vehicle with a restricted operators license. Investigation also revealed Thompson on conditions of release. Thompson was issued misdemeanor citations for operating a vehicle with restricted license and violating conditions of release. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

On 08/25/2020, A 2005 white Dodge pickup bearing Alaska license plate ERS857 was reported stolen from Thorne Bay. Anyone with information about this incident or the location of the vehicle are encouraged to call the Alaska State Troopers at 826-2918.
