Trooper Report Week of September 20th, 2020

Type: Death Investigation

Dispatch Text:

On 9/20/2020 at approximately 0058 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of an unresponsive male, in Kasaan. Michael Lineker, age 74 of Kasaan, was found unresponsive in his residence by a family member. No foul play is suspected at this time, the remains were released to family members. Next of Kin have been notified.

On 09/20/2020, at approximately 2250 hours, Alaska State Troopers from the Ketchikan Post and the Ketchikan Police Department responded to a residence off the North Tongass Highway to investigate the report of domestic violence.  The suspect had left the residence prior to law enforcement arrival.  On 09/21/2020, Megan Thomas (age 24 of Ketchikan) was arrested for Assault 3 (DV) and Assault 4 (DV), and was remanded at the Ketchikan Correctional Center without bail pending arraignment.  Alcohol was a factor.

On 9/22/2020 at approximately 1230 hours, Prince of Wales State Troopers received a tip that 31-year-old Jessica Montgomery of Hydaburg was staying at a hotel in Klawock. Montgomery had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to remand issued by the POW Court. Troopers responded and arrested Montgomery on the warrant. During the investigation, it was discovered that 32-year-old David Natkong-Carle of Hydaburg and 26-year-old Tyler Jones of Ketchikan were also staying in the hotel room. A search was conducted which resulted in over 8 grams of suspected heroin, methamphetamine, various pills, digital scales, over $2000 in cash, brass knuckles, and other evidence of drug distribution was seized.  Ultimately, Natkong-Carle was arrested for violating conditions of probation. Jones was arrested for Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances in the 2nd Degree, Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances in the 4th Degree and Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 4th Degree. All three individuals were remanded to the Craig Jail.

On 09/26/2020 at about 2106 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet pick-up on Main Street.  The vehicle was stopped for failure to use a turn signal.  The driver was identified as Paul Bermudez Jr, age 24 of Ketchikan.  Investigation revealed that Bermudez was operating a motor vehicle with a Revoked license.  Further investigation revealed that Bermudez had two prior convictions for DWLR.  Bermudez was arrested and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center.
