Cynthia Nardini (or as her friends call her: Tia) is one of the most amazing people I know. She lives with her husband Brad and their 4 dogs and 1 cat in a small, rural community in SE Alaska. Tia cuts hair in her home based salon and works at the community school and Brad is mate/captain on the Inter Island Ferry that runs between Prince of Wales Island, where they live, and Ketchikan.
During the several years that I have known her, she has been on home dialysis, and in and out of hospitals and doctors offices, while she waited to get the call that a donor was available for a new kidney and pancreas. Even though she was so sick, never once did she complain, she has always been upbeat and positive about her situation and her future. She finally got the call and the transplant was a success, her new organs are functioning well and she is healing nicely.
Because they live in a small, very remote community in SE Alaska, Tia and her husband Brad, will need to spend several months in Seattle while her new organs are monitored and her meds are adjusted. As you can imagine, this, in addition to her medical bills from the transplant surgery, will put a significant financial strain on this family.
Her hope and faith is an inspiration to so many and her upbeat, positive outlook on life has helped so many realize that life is truly a precious gift. There is nothing that Tia would not do to help a friend or even a stranger. This wife, mother, sister and friend is one of the most caring people you will ever meet and she has been given a chance to live her life free of the diabetes that plagued her for so long. Now we have the chance to give something back to her.
