Location: Prince Of Wales Island

Type: M.I.C.S. II, M.I.C.S. III, Burglary II, and Criminal Trespass I

On 3/4/2021 at approximately 1715 hours, Prince of Wales Alaska Wildlife Troopers and Village Public Safety Officers conducted a welfare check on a un-occupied residence in Hollis. Fresh vehicle tire tracks had been observed going to the residence in recently fallen snow. The person who oversees the residence was contacted out of state by AWT and reveled there was no one to be at the residence.

During the welfare check of the residence, Ronald W Griffin II (46 Y/O) of Washington, was contacted by AWT. Griffin had been staying inside the residence and recently arrived to Alaska from Washington.

During the contact, AWT applied for and was granted a search warrant for the residence. The search discovered both heroin and methamphetamine inside the residence. A large sum of US currency was also discovered near the controlled substances.

Griffin was arrested on one count each of Misconduct Involving A Controlled Substance 2nd, Misconduct Involving A Controlled Substance 3rd, Burglary 2nd, and Criminal Trespass 1st. He was remanded to the Craig Jail Facility without incident.

The investigation is ongoing at the time of this report.

Type: Burglary II, Criminal Trespass I, and Theft IV

On 3/5/2021 at 0133 hours, Prince Of Wales AWT contacted Terry J Newkirk (54 y/o) of Washington at a un-occupied residence in Hollis. The contact showed Newkirk had burglarized the residence after a search warrant was served on the residence the previous day. He was seen exiting the residence with items that did not belong to him and he did not have permission from the person in charge of the residence to be inside it.

He was arrested on one count each of Burglary II, Criminal Trespass I, and Theft IV. He was transported and remanded to the Craig Jail.


Location: Kasaan/Thorne Bay

Type: Assault III x 4, MIW IV, MICS V

On 3/6/2021, Prince of Wales State Troopers were advised of a verbal altercation which occurred near 7-mile Kasaan Road. The altercation culminated when 31-year-old Joshua Cristy of Klawock, produced a handgun and fired a round towards a group of four individuals who were clearing brush near the road. One of the individuals was a family member of Christy, and all four individuals were placed in fear. Christy was contacted a short while later in Thorne Bay where he was arrested for four counts of assault III, one count being Domestic Violence, and misconduct involving weapons in the 4th degree by firing the firearm from the roadway. A search warrant was obtained for his vehicle which led to the seizure of two handguns and ammunition. Methamphetamine was also discovered during the search. Christy was remanded to the Craig Jail pending arraignment.

Type: Tampering with Physical evidence, Promoting Contraband, and MICS 5, PTRP

On 3/6/2021 at approximately 1515 hours the Hydaburg VPSO located Biana Brisson age 43 of Hydaburg, at a residence.  Brisson was remanded at the request of her probation officer for PTRP and transported to the Craig Jail Facility.  During a search at the facility it was found that Brisson had his under her breasts a pill bottle full of urine and 8 white pills.  The pills where identified as Acetaminophen and Oxycodone Hydrochloride 325mg.  Oxycodone is a schedule 1A narcotic.  Brisson was charged with attempted tampering with evidence AS 11.56.610(a)(1) promoting contraband AS 11.56.375(a)(3) and MICS 5 AS 11.71.050(a)(4)


Location: Sitka

Type: Possess Undersize Commercial Tanner Crab

On 3/3/21, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post cited Ty Barkhoefer, age 54, of Sitka, and Thomas Trager, age 31, of California for possession of undersize commercial Tanner Crab.  The charges are a result of an offload inspection on 2/28/21 when Trager, a crewman onboard the F/V Chelsea Dawn, was observed by Troopers measuring and breaking an undersize crab in the hold of the vessel.  Subsequent investigation showed there were undersize crab retained in the hold of the vessel during the offload. Barkhoefer was charged as the permit holder and operator of the vessel.  Arraignments are set in the District Court at Sitka.
