On 6/17/2021 at 0529 hours, Prince of Wales AST responded with the assistance of AWT to Wadleigh Island outside Klawock for a reported assault involving a firearm. A 22-year-old female reported her ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old Jacob Moser of Klawock had physically assaulted her and fired several shots from a high-powered rifle into the water near her when she attempted to leave. The female was able to safely make her way to a neighbor’s property where troopers were able to evacuate her to safety. Troopers then contacted Moser who was initially asleep in his tent. Investigation resulted in Moser being charged with Assault III (DV), Assault IV (DV), and MIW IV. Moser was additionally charged with resisting arrest after he fought briefly with the Troopers when they took him into custody. Moser was remanded to the Craig Jail pending arraignment. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

On June 14, 2021, at approximately 1550 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan were notified that an adult male was found deceased on a skiff near Mile 5 of the North Tongass Highway. Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene and determined that 62-year-old Ketchikan resident Michael Mateer was operating a skiff along the shoreline when witnesses stated the skiff began to drive in circles and eventually run aground. Mateer was found slumped over in the skiff. The Ketchikan Fire Department responded and retrieved Mateer from the skiff and determined that he was deceased. There is no suspicion of foul play. The State Medical Examiner was notified and released the body to the next of kin. The next of kin was notified.

On 6/17/2021, Prince of Wales AWT contacted Jacob A Moser (22 y/o) during an investigation in Klawock. During the contact, it was discovered Moser was in possession of recently harvested Sitka Black-tail Deer parts. Further investigation led to a Sitka Black-tail deer being seized from a residence in Hollis. On 6/19/2021, Moser was charged with one count each of Taking a Deer Closed Season in GMU 2 and Unlawful Possession and Transportation of Game. He has a mandatory Appearance in the Prince of Wales District Court.
