Type: Warrant Arrest

On 7/21/2022 at 1615 hours, Linda Demmert, 73-years-old of Craig was arrested by the Alaska State Troopers on an arrest warrant issued for the original charge of MICS 2 (Fentanyl), and MICS 3 (Methamphetamine).  Demmert was remanded to the Craig Jail on $5000 bail.

Type: Warrant/Violation of Custodian's Duty/Hindering 1st Degree

On 7/23/2022, Prince of Wales State Troopers obtained a search warrant for a residence in Hydaburg after investigation determined that 44-year-old Shanteh Carle was hiding inside. An arrest warrant was issued earlier in the week for Carle after she had left the custody of her third-party custodian.  Criminal charges against the third-party custodian have been filed as she didn't immediately report the initial violation to AST.  Carle was located inside the Hydaburg residence and arrested. A family member of Carle has been identified as assisting the apprehension by concealing the location of Carle to authorities. Carle was remanded to the Craig Jail and held without bail.  Charges of Hindering Prosecution have been forwarded on the family member.

On 07/27/2022 at approximately 1900 hours the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales received a report of an assault that occurred on a fishing vessel in the waters just outside the city of Craig. Investigation revealed, Bradly Ross (age 51 of Washington), had assaulted another crew member on the boat by grabbing the crewmember then pushing his arm against his throat, making it so he couldn’t breathe or speak for a short time. The dispute occurred after the crewmember drank some of Bradly’s orange juice. Brady was remanded to Craig Jail for the charge of Assault in the Second Degree where he was held without bail.

Type: DUI / Assault 1 / Reckless Driving

On 07/17/2022 at approximately 0135 hours, AST in Soldotna took a report of a side by side ATV rollover crash with injuries in Cohoe Loop area of Kasilof. Central Emergency Services and AST responded. Investigation revealed that 33 Y/O Cody Brown of Wasilla was driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages. The passenger of the side by side suffered serious physical injury to her face and both individuals had to be transported to Central Peninsula Hospital. The severity of the injuries of the passenger required them to be transported by air to Anchorage. Brown was released from the hospital and was arrested for DUI, Assault in the 1st degree and Reckless Driving. Brown was transported to Wildwood Pretrial, where he was remanded.

Type: MVC Fatal

UPDATE: A second driver died during surgery from the injuries sustained in the 3-vehicle motor vehicle collision. The two drivers that died from injuries from the accident are Rachel Stinson, age 58 of Anchorage, and Katheryne Murray, age 33 of Wasilla. These two drivers had been identified in the previous release as the drivers of the maroon sedan and the white hatchback. Next of kin has been notified. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

On 07/17/22 at 0013 hours, AST and Wasilla Police responded to a 3 vehicle accident on the Parks Highway near Lamont Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed a white sedan was traveling southbound on the Parks Highway when the driver lost control striking a maroon sedan also traveling southbound. The maroon sedan then crossed the median into northbound traffic and struck a white hatchback head on. One of the drivers was declared deceased on scene and another was airlifted to an Anchorage hospital for serious injuries. The 3rd driver was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The SME responded to the scene and next of kin notifications are in progress. Parks Highway traffic was diverted onto a side road with minimal delay to the public. Investigation continues and AST is requesting anyone with information about the incident to contact AST dispatch at 352-5401.

Type: Burglary 1st / Thefts 2 (x2) & 4 / Criminal Mischief 3rd / Misconduct involving Weapons 5th

On 7/17/2022 at 1805 hours a burglary alarm was triggered at a residence near mile 325 of the Parks Hwy north of Nenana. Homeowners responded and found the home had been broken into and called 911.  Alaska State Troopers with the Parks Hwy Team responded, and while in route to the residence they noticed a male acting suspicious walking along the highway and contacted the male who was identified as VANCE CADIENTE, age 34 of Anchorage.  Investigation revealed CADIENTE had burglarized the home, by breaking a window and entering through the broken window. While in the home he had taken a bath, ate the homeowner’s food and drank their beer, then stole 2 firearms, ammunition, ATV keys, garage door opener, and fled on foot but was unable to elude the keen eyes of responding Troopers.  CADIENTE was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center and held without bail on the following charges: Burglary 1st Degree, Theft 2nd Degree (X2) & 4th Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, and Misconduct Involving Weapons 5th Degree.  AST reminds homeowners that technology such as home alarm systems and security systems can greatly increase the probability of law enforcement catching criminals who commit crimes on your property. To would-be criminals: Don’t be suspicious.

Type: Fail to Complete Sport Guide Logbook

On 7/15/22, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Sitka Post contacted Bret Dickerson, age 41, of WA, conducting sport fish guiding on board a vessel offshore of Biorka Island.  Investigation revealed, Dickerson had not started a saltwater logbook prior to commencing the fishing trip, as required by the logbook instructions.  Dickerson was issued a citation, with bail set at $220, in the district court at Sitka.

Type: False Statement on Sport License, Unsworn Falsification on CFEC permits

On 7/12/22, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, charged Braden W. Jay, age 34 of Bellingham WA, with 4 counts of false statement and 6 counts of unsworn falsification II, on sport licenses, as well as commercial licenses. The charges stem from an investigation which shows Jay is not a qualified resident of Alaska and had obtained resident licenses in Alaska over the last five years. An arraignment is set in the district court at Sitka.

Type: Take Undersize Commercial King Salmon

On 7/19/22, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Davin Brady, age 27 of Sitka, for taking an undersize commercial troll caught king salmon.  The fish was located during an offload to a local processor.  An arraignment is set in the district court at Sitka

Type: Boating Under The Influence

At approximately 1900 hours on 7-20-22, a Sitka Wildlife Trooper observed Connor Nelson, age 77, of Sitka, return to the dock from a fishing trip. Investigation revealed Nelson was operating his vessel while under the influence of alcohol. Nelson was placed under arrest after failing a series of field sobriety tests. Nelson subsequently submitted a breath sample to a DataMaster which revealed a breath alcohol level of .177 BrAC. Nelson was issued a summons to appear in the District Court in Sitka on 7/26/22 for Operating A Watercraft Under The Influence, and was released to the care of a responsible adult.

Type: Search & Rescue

On 7/23/2022 at approximately 2150 hours AST was notified of two hikers, Hannah Hayden age 26 of Anchorage, and Kevin Kim age 30 of Eagle River, on the Black Tail Rock trail in Eagle River who believed that they were not going to be able to get themselves off of the mountain. Kevin advised that they had run out of water and that Hannah had become dizzy and exhausted and could not continue. Alaska Mountain Rescue Group responded to assist the hikers off the mountain. AMRG requested assistance of a helicopter to transport the hikers due to their medical conditions. Alaska Air National Guard responded and transported the hikers off the mountain to a nearby medical facility.

AST would like to thank the support the joint efforts of AMRG and AKANG for their efforts.

Type: No Crew License, Employ Unlicensed Crew

On 7/24/22, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted Timber A. Burnham, age 22, of Craig, working on a commercial seine vessel.  Investigation revealed Burnham did not have a commercial crew license at the time of the contact.  Burnham was cited for no crew license.  Additionally, operator and permit holder Tanner Thain, age 27 of Craig was cited for employing unlicensed crew.  Bail was set at $270 each, in the district court at Sitka.

On 7/24/22, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted Jonathan Stack, age 43 of Ketchikan, working aboard a commercial seine vessel.  Investigation revealed Stack did not have a current crew license in possession.  He was cited with bail set at $270 in the district court at Sitka.

Type: Missing person

Dispatch Text:

On 07/19/2022 at 1504 hours, Alaska State Troopers received the report of a missing person. Gregory Starner was reported to be leaving his residence on 07/18/2022 at 2100 hours, and not returned. Gregory was reported to have left his residence driving a white 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500 with an unknown direction of travel.

 

Update: On 07/24/2022 at 1600 hours, Gregory was located near Point McKenzie Road deceased inside his vehicle. AST was able to locate the vehicle with the help of community tips. There are no signs of foul play and next of kin has been notified.
