Type: Suspicious Circumstances

On 4/10/16 at 1134 hours, Craig Alaska Wildlife Troopers (AWT) received a report of a suspicious box floating in the marine waters near Craig. AWT responded via the P/V Interceptor and discovered the box was a military shipping container for a guided missile. During the investigation, a mariner in the vicinity radioed AWT to report they had located an additional guided missile shipping container. Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) was contacted and helped determine both containers were void of their original contents and the containers were safe to remove from the water to be disposed of. The history of, or where the containers originated is unknown at this time. Information contained on tags attached to the containers was passed along to military authorities.

On 4/11/16 at approximately 1600 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report of a single vehicle collision near mile 16.5 of the Klawock-Hollis Hwy. Investigation revealed that Esther Peratrovich, age 26 of Hydaburg, had been travelling eastbound on the Klawock-Hollis Hwy near mile 16.5 when she lost control of her 2000 Toyota Echo and left the roadway. The vehicle travelled approximately 200 feet through the ditch before coming to rest on top of a downed tree. Damages to the vehicle were estimated at $2,000.00. Peratrovich did not sustain any injuries in the incident.

On 4/11/16 at approximately 1305 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report of theft in the community of Naukati. The complainant reported that at some point during the past month, an unknown individual entered his property and stole approximately $3,000.00 worth of tin roofing material. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Alaska State Troopers POW post at 907-826-2918.

On 4/11/16 at approximately 1200 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report of theft in the area of El Capitan. The complainant reported that on 4/10/16 between 1400 and 1530 hours, an unknown individual entered their unoccupied RV that was parked at the primitive boat launch and stole numerous items valued at approximately $1600.00. Type: Theft – Third Degree, Chemical Spill Investigation.

On 4/13/16 at approximately 0905 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report of a chemical spill and equipment theft in the community of Naukati. The complainant reported that at some point during the night, three individuals were removing parts from an excavator parked on the roadside in Naukati and spilled an unknown quantity of coolant and diesel fuel onto the roadway and surrounding woodland area. AST responded and contacted the individuals who were identified as Ted J. Beal age 38 of Craig, Robyn Buchanan, age 26 of Craig, and Miguel Marin-Noriega, age 56 of Klawock. The site had obvious signs of coolant and diesel contamination. The value of the parts removed from the excavator were estimated to be approximately $500.00. The Department of Environmental Conservation was contacted and is participating in the investigation.

On 4/13/16 at approximately 1030 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Miguel Marin-Noriega, age 56 of Klawock, during a theft investigation. When contacted by AST, Marin-Noriega was operating a 1990 Chevrolet Pickup in the community of Naukati with a suspended operator’s license. Marin-Noriega was issued an Alaska Uniform Citation to appear in court for the charge of Driving While License Suspended.

On 4/13/16 at approximately 1030 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Ted J. Beal, age 38 of Craig, during a theft investigation. When contacted by AST, Beal was operating a 1989 Ford Pickup in the community of Naukati with a suspended operator’s license. Beal was issued an Alaska Uniform Citation to appear in court for the charge of Driving While License Suspended

On 4/13/16 at approximately 1030 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Robyn Buchanan, age 26 of Craig, during a theft investigation. When contacted by AST, Buchanan was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Prizm in the community of Naukati without a valid operator’s license. Buchanan was issued an Alaska Uniform Citation to appear in court for the charge of No Valid Operator’s License.

On 04/15/16, at approximately 1340 hours, the Alaska State Troopers Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit in Ketchikan (with the assistance of the Ketchikan Police Department, the Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers from the Prince of Wales Island Post, and the United States Forest Service Law Enforcement Craig Ranger District) arrested John Mackie (age 32 of Hydaburg), Terra Adams (age 34 of Hydaburg), and William Carle (age 20 of Hydaburg) for Attempted Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree after they took possession of an air cargo shipment in Hollis they believed contained 100 Oxycodone 30 mg tablets. Mackie and Adams had solicited a third party in Ketchikan to ship 100 Oxycodone 30 mg pills, which they intended to sell and repay the shipper a prearranged price. The street value of 100 Oxycodone 30 mg pills on Prince of Wales Island is $10,000 or $100 per pill. Mackie was also charged with Driving without a Valid License. Adams, who was out on bail related to another criminal charge, was also charged with Violation of Conditions of Release. Mackie, Adams, and Carle were remanded to the Craig Jail without bail pending arraignment on 04/16/16.
