All Invited to the Hollis Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser Planning Meeting March 20, 2017

The 9th Annual Hollis Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser planning is already in full swing. An energized committee is seeking build upon last year’s family fun event that will provide our community with an opportunity to come together and have some fun while doing it.

The Saturday August 19, 2017 event plans include the Biggest Darn Yard Sale EVER! (drop donations by the school or the fire hall), Farmers Market & Vendors, Raffle, Silent Auction, Kids’ Korner (art and games) sponsored by Hollis School, Food & Refreshment (hotdogs &sodas), Root Beer Floats & Coffee, live music with local musicians to play through out the day, & our 2nd Annual Chili Feed & cook off!

Many of last year’s volunteers met after the August 2016 event and considered all of the feedback we received and are making some changes to improve. These include but are not limited to:

• The event publicity will start with our youth art contest which will provide our logo for our posters
and tickets and, if we decide to make some, chili cook off fundraiser aprons and t-shirts.
• We are making some changes to the event times - the chili feed may take place earlier in the day.
• The 2017 Chili Cook-off “Golden Ladle” trophy for the “Best Over All” will be made by last year’s winner – we are hopeful that will start a nice local tradition.

Other prizes are still in the works but the contest and the prizes remain all about fun and of course for the cook of the winning chili, “bragging rights”!

As you can see this is a project in the works towards another successful event to raise funds to support our volunteers who support us. Last year we raised around $4000.00! This year we hope to top that and more.

The funds we raise will go for updated training, equipment and supplies. We are partnering with our Hollis School to provide first aide training to all students and first responder training to older students to “grow our own” volunteers.

So, want to get involved? Have a talent to share? We sure would love to have you help. We have an action plan to make sure nothing is overlooked and the workload is shared so no one is overwhelmed.

Our next committee meeting is Monday March 20, 2017 at 6:30 PM at the Hollis Volunteer Fire Department Meeting Room. We hope to identify volunteers who will have oversight for activities and confirm all pre-planning action items and target dates. We would love to have you join us - the more people who share their talents and ideas, the better our event will be.

Our April 10, 2017 Meeting at 6:30 PM at the Hollis Volunteer Fire Department Meeting Room will be to review our Art contest submissions, and select the winners as well as the logo for this year’s event. We will also finalize the initial publicly plan and launch our publicity.

If you cannot come to a meeting there are other ways to volunteer, whether it be at the event itself or helping to sell tickets, gather donations or even cooking a pot of chili to enter the contest! Who knows, maybe your recipe will earn the Chili Cook-off’s Golden Ladle Award!

You can learn more about the event on the Hollis Fire Department Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/events/1661955500734611/ or you can e-mail the committee at

Thank you - we look forward to hearing you and once again, please consider joining us at our committee meetings on Monday March 20, 2017 and Monday April 10, 2017 at 6:30 PM at the Hollis Volunteer Fire Department
