Trooper Report Week of June 11, 2017

Location: Prince of Wales Island

Type: MVC-Injury, Failure to Give Immediate Notice of an Accident.

On 6/11/17 Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island discovered an unoccupied single vehicle rollover collision near mile 21 of the Klawock-Hollis Hwy. The investigation revealed that Jennifer Haydu, age 27 of Craig, had been travelling westbound on the Klawock-Hollis Hwy near mile 21 when she swerved into the ditch and rolled the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee she was operating. Haydu was driven away from the scene by a passing motorist, but did not make any attempt to report the accident. The vehicle was a total loss, and Haydu sustained minor injuries from the collision. Haydu was issued a misdemeanor Alaska Uniform Citation (AUC) for failure to give immediate notice of an accident, and a minor offense AUC for no proof of insurance.

Type: Drive in Violation of Restricted License

On 06-13-17 at approximately 1926 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a green Ford Explorer near MP 4 of the Craig-Klawock Highway. Investigation revealed Douglas Schoenheit, age 32 of Craig, was driving in violation of his restricted license. Schoenheit was issued a summons for Driving in Violation of Restricted License.

Type: Burglary

On 06-14-17 at approximately 1343 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a burglary at a seasonal residence on Wadleigh Island. Investigation revealed multiple cabins on the property were broken into and several firearms were stolen. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this burglary is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 826-2918.
