The Craig City School Board is pleased to announce their unanimous choice for a new Superintendent, Chris Reitan, beginning July 1, 2018.

Due to inclement weather restricting travel, the three semifinalist candidates were unable to get to Craig until late in the evening on Monday, February 26th. The candidates attended a 1-hour video teleconference with the Craig School District administrative team, from the PACE office in Ketchikan that day. After ferrying to Hollis and driving to Craig that night, the three candidates took questions during a community forum at the Craig High School auditorium. The Board wishes to express their sincere thanks to everyone who participated and supported the events on February 26th. On the morning of February 27, the board interviewed each candidate separately for just over one hour in executive session. Immediately following the interviews, the board met in executive session to review the appointment of their choice for superintendent from three exceptionally qualified candidates.

Chris Reitan made the following statement upon his appointment:

“I’m excited to move to beautiful Prince of Wales Island and the community of Craig. Craig has great pride, great programs, and a great staff, and I look forward to partnering with all community agencies to build upon and strengthen the services that we provide our students. I couldn’t be more pleased with this incredible opportunity.”

Chris Reitan is currently the Superintendent for Galena School District (2011-present) in Galena, Alaska. Prior to that, he was the assistant superintendent from 2009-2011, a principal from 2001-2009 and the assistant principal/teacher from 1998-2001 all with Galena School District. He has been an adjunct professor at UAF. He holds both an Alaska superintendent as well as a principal certificate, both from UAA, and earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (1999) from UAF.
