On March 12, 2018 at about 12:45 AM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales responded to Hydaburg for a report of a deceased person. The investigation revealed 66 year old Hydaburg resident Doreen Washington passed away of natural causes. She was released to the family and next of kin was on scene.

On February 24, 2018, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island observed a vehicle abandoned on the Hydaburg Highway in the lane of travel causing a traffic hazard. 35 year old Klawock resident James Mackie was identified as the owner of the vehicle. On March 13, 2018, a warrant was issued for James' arrest. James was arrested and transported to Craig Police Department where he was remanded.

On 2/27/2018, James Wood reported that a firearm was stolen approximately 2 - 3 months ago from his residence in Craig. The firearm is described as a black, semi-automatic Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm, serial number MPN7869. Anyone who has information about this firearm theft is encouraged to call the Alaska State Troopers at 836-2918. Callers may remain anonymous.
