Representative Tomkins Requests Governor Dunleavy Include Funds in the Capital Budget to Repair the Kasaan Road

I respectfully request that Governor Dunleavy include in his capital budget the funding requisite to reopen the portion of the Kasaan Road that was destroyed by a landslide on January 1, 2019, and that effectively severs the South Thorne Bay and Kasaan communities from the rest of Prince of Wales Island.

Debris from the landslide covers over 180 feet of the Kasaan Road and leaves the road impassable. Now effectively isolated, these communities are experiencing fuel shortages, disrupted emergency medical services, and the inability to get students to school.

The Kasaan Road's indefinite closure is untenable.

On behalf of the communities of Kasaan and Thorne Bay, thank you for your consideration of indcluding the funds needed to reopen the Kasaan Road in your proposed capital budget.
