Meeting Planning Related to COVID-19
On behalf of the Alaska Boards of Fisheries and Game, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Boards Support Section is seeking public comment related to the upcoming 2020/2021 meeting cycle as it relates to mitigation measures for COVID-19.
Alaska’s fish and game regulatory process is among the most public in the nation. Board meetings rely on a high degree of public interaction making social distancing to avoid the spread of COVID-19 very difficult. In reviewing options for in-person or virtual meetings, Boards Support is seeking public comment.
This request for public comment is not for regulatory action. All comments are welcome, but specific input on the following aspects are especially welcome.
- Should the boards postpone the 2020/2021 meeting schedule until conditions improve? What factors should be considered before in-person meetings are held?
- Would an on-line virtual board meeting with an option for taking testimony telephonically be adequate for conducting board meetings?
- The Board of Fisheries conducts its committee of the whole process and engages in a significant level of public-led substitute language. Comments on how these two functions might be carried out in an on-line virtual meeting are encouraged.
In addition to the board meetings, Boards Support will utilize this information to support the fish and game Advisory Committees with their meetings.
The deadline for comments is Monday, August 31, 2020.
