Location: Klawock

Type: Assault 3 X5, MIW 4

Dispatch Text:

On 03/21/2021, at 1627 hours, Prince of Wales AST received a report for a male in distress in Klawock, shooting a gun, yelling and threatening to kill himself. The male was identified as Albert Macasaet Jr, age 61 of Klawock. AST responded along with Klawock PD, Craig PD, and U.S.F.S officers. After approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes of negotiations Macasaet was safely apprehended, then remanded to Craig Jail on 5 counts of Assault in the Third Degree and Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Fourth Degree where he was held without bail. The use of alcohol and methamphetamine are believed to be a factor.

Type: Residential Fire- Missing Person

Update 3/25: The State Medical Examiner has positively identified the human remains as 75-year-old Port Protection resident Gary Muehlberger. Next of kin have been notified.

Update 3/22: On 3/17 Alaska State Troopers in Southeast, Alaska responded to Port Protection and on 3/18 a Deputy Fire Marshal from Anchorage arrived in Port Protection to conduct an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. During their examination of the burned structure, human remains were located. The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner in Anchorage for positive identification. The Deputy Fire Marshal has ruled the fire as accidental.

Original: On 3/17/2021 at approximately 1130 hours, AST received a report from the community of Port Protection regarding a fully engulfed residential fire with one person unaccounted for. The owner of the residence, Gary Muehlberger, 75, has not been seen since prior to the fire. Deputy Fire Marshals, with the assistance of AST and AWT, are responding to Port Protection to investigate.

On 03/21/2021, at 1627 hours, Prince of Wales AST received a request for assistance from Klawock Police Department regarding a male making suicidal/homicidal threats. The male was armed with a high-powered rifle and had discharged the weapon multiple times. The male was identified as Albert Macasaet Jr. 61 yoa from Klawock.  AST responded along with Klawock PD, Craig PD, and U.S.F.S officers. AST attempted verbal contact and negotiations with Macasaet on several occasions to no avail. While attempting to make verbal contact with Macasaet, he pointed the rifle towards where law enforcement had taken cover, and yelled “Shoot me and “I want to kill myself” multiple times. After approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes of negotiations Macasaet was safely apprehended, then remanded to Craig Jail on 5 counts of Assault in the Third Degree and Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. The use of alcohol and methamphetamine are believed to be a factor. AST has assumed case responsibility.

Type: Warrant Arrest

On 03/25/2021 at about 2000 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted and arrested Cheri Henson, age 36 of Ketchikan on two outstanding warrants stemming from the original charges of VCOR.  Henson was remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with bail set at $6,000.

Type: Trapping without a license

Dispatch Text:

On 3/26/2021 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Bryan Moody (28) of Ketchikan for trapping without a license.  This violation carries a set fine of $270 in the First Judicial District Court in Ketchikan and does not require a mandatory court appearance.
