No report for POW or Ketchikan this week. As with last week, here are some things that occurred around the state;

Type: Domestic Violence Protective Order Violation/False Report/Fraudulent Use of an Access Device/Theft 2nd

On 11/17/21, following an Alaska State Trooper investigation involving a protective order violation, criminal mischief and theft at a lodge in Kenai, Brandon Melecio Elizalde, age 29 of Kenai, was arrested on charges of Violating a Domestic Violence Protective Order, False Report, Fraudulent Use of an Access Device, and Theft 2nd degree. Elizalde was remanded at Wildwood pretrial without bail.

On November 21, 2021, at approximately 1430 hours, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers were notified of three overdue hikers in the area of Cowee Meadows Cabin. The three adults had spent the night at the Cowee Meadows Cabin and told a family member in the morning that they were beginning to hike out, but that deep snow that fell overnight had hidden the trail. At approximately 1622 hours, Alaska State Troopers made it to the trailhead and confirmed that the group had not returned yet. Volunteer searchers from Juneau Mountain Rescue were contacted and responded to the trailhead. At approximately 1835 hours, the group was assisted back to the trailhead by Juneau Mountain Rescue and US Forest Service Law Enforcement. No injuries were reported. The Alaska Wildlife Troopers would like to thank Juneau Mountain Rescue, US Forest Service Law Enforcement, and the Alaska Department of Transportation for their assistance.

On 11-24-2021, Steven Gile Jr., age 32 of Wrangell, was issued a citation for personal use fishing for Dungeness Crab utilizing a crab pot with escape rings in violation of 5AAC92.662(5).

Type: Commercial Fishing Closed Period

Dispatch Text:

On 7/27/2021 at approximately 0820 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers this summer were conducting a Upper Cook Inlet Fishing patrol and saw a boat fishing during a closed period. Investigation revealed Vasily Kuzmin age 69 from Delta Junction was operating a fishing vessel  in a closed area. A mandatory court citation was filled with the Kenai Court.
