On November 5, 2021, at approximately 0653 hours, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a vehicle collision between a school bus and an SUV near mile 10.5 of the North Tongass Highway. Alaska State Troopers and other first responders responded to the scene. Based on a preliminary investigation, an SUV was speeding and passing in a no-passing zone when it collided with the front of a school bus that was transporting students. Both adult male occupants of the SUV were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Nobody aboard the school bus was injured. The investigation into the collision is ongoing, and no charges or citations have been issued at this time.
