From a local resident:
I live in a town on Prince of Wales. Like the rest of the island, we have a sizable number of summer “residents” who visit for a few months a year.
With the COVID 19 pandemic, we were hoping these summer people would stay in their real homes. However, they have started to show up. Two arrived recently from Arizona and were seen at the local grocery store buying groceries after landing at the airport.
The 14 day quarantine mandate clearly says that new arrivals need to immediately proceed from the airport to their residence so these two are in clear violation of that requirement. They apparently have been reported to the troopers but we’re not sure if anything is being done about it.
I am sincerely worried about more people showing up here and jeopardizing our extremely limited healthcare system if we have an outbreak. The above two people show a lack of common sense and disregard for our safety primarily by coming here and secondarily by flouting the quarantine mandate. I implore individuals, local, and state governments to do more to stop summer people from coming here.
